Cataract Surgery
At Eye Surgeons of CNY, we pride ourselves on our ability to offer patients the latest state-of-the-art technology in the field of cataract extraction and lens implantation.
A cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye. Cataracts is a normal aging change that progresses over time causing blurry vision, glare/halos, and decreased contrast which start to affect your daily activities. When glasses no longer correct your vision, surgery is the only option to improve your sight. Take our cataract survey to see if you qualify.
Cataract Surgery involves removing the cloudy natural lens inside the eye and replacing it with a new intra-ocular lens implant (IOL). The lens implant can be customized to you and your specific refractive error to reduce your dependence on glasses. At Eye Surgeons, we offer several different lens implant options to help correct your vision:
PanOptix
A lens developed by Alcon to help improve the clarity of vision in three ways: up-close, intermediate (computer distance), and far away.
With the PanOptix trifocal IOL, patients can restore sharp distance, intermediate, and near vision for seamless visual acuity. The PanOptix can help patients to dramatically reduce dependence on bifocals and reading glasses

Vivity
Provides extended depth of focus without diffraction
Vivity IOL is aimed at reducing the need for glasses at both distance and intermediate ranges.

Toric lenses
Correct astigmatism and help improve clarity of vision.
May not be appropriate for all patients. Depends on refractive error. This will be determined at your cataract evaluation.
Laser-assisted cataract surgery
A Femtosecond laser is used to during certain parts of surgery to improve outcomes
Not available to all patients; will be discussed further at your evaluation appointment.

Come See Us Today!
A cataract evaluation at our office involves an initial examination with Dr. Dexter who will check the health of the eye and discuss your visual goals. We gather data to assess the shape and length of the eye which will help determine which lens implants will work best for you. Finally you will sit with one of our surgery team members to schedule surgery and clarify any questions you may have.
